Where the necessary information is available, it can retrieve and summarise it. Where a record is missing, unclear or incomplete, IRIS should not present an assumption as a confirmed fact.

Users remain able to open the relevant panel, inspection, action or report and verify the source information behind an answer. This keeps IRIS connected to the operational record rather than allowing it to become a separate or untraceable source of maintenance information.

The more consistently your organisation uses PanelGuard, the more complete the information available for IRIS to help you explore.

Practical Assistance, With People in Control

IRIS is not an autonomous engineer and does not replace competent electrical personnel.

It cannot physically inspect equipment, prove that work has been completed correctly or declare a panel electrically safe. It also does not replace isolation procedures, inspection and testing, risk assessments, site safety requirements or professional engineering judgement.

Instead, IRIS supports the people responsible for those activities by helping them find records, understand priorities and reduce repetitive administrative work.

Any technical conclusion, maintenance decision or formal report remains subject to review by an appropriately qualified or authorised person.

PanelGuard + Approved Contractors

From Identifying a Problem to Getting It Resolved

PanelGuard helps your organisation identify, record and manage electrical-panel defects—but not every business has the internal resources or specialist knowledge required to complete every piece of corrective work.

When additional electrical support is needed, PanelGuard customers can request assistance from NIES or its network of approved electrical contractors.

This creates an optional route from the issue recorded in PanelGuard to the practical work required on site. Your organisation remains free to use its own engineers or existing contractors, but suitable support may be available when additional capacity, specialist knowledge or an independent assessment is required.

Contractor services are not included within the PanelGuard subscription price. Any attendance, inspection, labour, materials or remedial work would be discussed and quoted separately before being arranged.

Help When Your Team Needs It

Engineering departments regularly balance breakdowns, planned maintenance, projects, inspections and production demands. Even a capable internal team may not always have the time or resources to address every issue immediately.

In other cases, an organisation may identify a problem that falls outside the experience of its current team or requires a competent electrical contractor to investigate further.

Keep the Corrective Work Connected

Where contractor support is used, the work can remain connected to the original PanelGuard record.

Updates, supporting notes and completion evidence can be added to the relevant corrective action so that the organisation retains a clear trail from the initial inspection finding through to the final outcome.

Approved contractor support is intended to complement your internal resources and existing supplier relationships.

There is no requirement to transfer all electrical work to NIES or its contractor network. Your own engineers can continue to complete corrective actions, and your organisation may use its existing approved contractors whenever preferred.

The additional-support option is there for situations where:

  • Your internal team is already at capacity

  • Specialist assistance is required

  • Work needs to be completed within a particular timeframe

  • Additional personnel are needed for a planned project

  • An external assessment would be beneficial

  • The organisation does not employ its own electrical maintenance team

  • Your usual contractor is unavailable

  • Several recorded actions need to be addressed together

This provides another route to support without restricting how your organisation normally manages electrical maintenance.

An Optional Service, Quoted Separately

PanelGuard is a software platform. The subscription covers access to the applicable PanelGuard system and features set out in your chosen plan—it does not include electrical contracting work.

Unless expressly included in a separate written agreement, the following are not included in the PanelGuard subscription:

  • Contractor call-outs

  • Site attendance

  • Labour

  • Travel and accommodation

  • Electrical components

  • Replacement parts

  • Consumable materials

  • Access equipment

  • Specialist testing

  • Remedial work

  • Panel modifications

  • Installation or commissioning

  • Third-party certification

  • Out-of-hours or emergency attendance

Where support is requested, the requirements will be reviewed and a separate quotation or agreed charging arrangement will be provided where appropriate.

No contractor attendance or chargeable work will begin solely because an action has been created in PanelGuard. Work must be requested and authorised through the agreed process.

Appropriate Contractors for the Work

Where NIES introduces or arranges support through an approved contractor, the contractor will be selected with consideration for the available information, location and expected scope of work.

Depending on the assignment, relevant factors may include:

  • Electrical competence and experience

  • Suitability for an industrial environment

  • Relevant qualifications

  • Insurance

  • Health and safety documentation

  • Availability

  • Geographic coverage

  • Experience with the type of equipment or work involved

Customer-specific approval, induction, permit and procurement requirements may still apply before any contractor can attend or begin work.

The term “approved contractor” means that the contractor has been accepted by NIES for potential work within the scope of its contractor arrangements. It does not remove the customer’s responsibility to complete any supplier checks, site approvals or contractor controls required by its own policies.

Your Site Rules Remain in Control

Any contractor attending a customer facility must work within the site’s applicable safety and operational requirements.

These may include:

  • Site induction

  • Risk assessments and method statements

  • Permit-to-work procedures

  • Safe-isolation requirements

  • Lockout and tagout procedures

  • Personal protective equipment

  • Hygiene or food-safety requirements

  • Access restrictions

  • Production coordination

  • Supervision arrangements

  • Testing and handover requirements

PanelGuard can support the record surrounding the work, but it does not replace these controls.

The contractor remains responsible for completing work safely and within their competence. The customer remains responsible for site control, access authorisation and any duties that legally remain with the customer.

Greater Continuity Between Inspection and Repair

When inspections and remedial work are managed through completely separate channels, important context can be lost.

The person completing the repair may receive only a short description of the defect. The original photographs may be unavailable, previous occurrences may be overlooked and completion evidence may never make its way back into the asset record.

Connecting optional contractor support with PanelGuard creates greater continuity. The original finding, supporting information and eventual outcome can remain associated with the same panel.

This helps the organisation maintain a more complete history and makes it easier for future engineers to understand what was found, what was done and whether further attention may be required.

Support for Individual Actions or Larger Programmes

Contractor assistance can be considered for an individual corrective action or a wider programme of electrical improvement work.

For example, an organisation may request help with one defect that requires specialist attention. Alternatively, PanelGuard may reveal a group of related issues that would be more efficiently addressed as a planned project.
